Every size chart on this site is in centimetres, per size. This page explains where those centimetres are measured, so you can compare them with your own measurements or with a garment you already own.
two kinds of columns
fits bust, fits waist, fits hip — your own body measurement. Measure yourself and pick the size whose range you fall in.
bust, waist, hip, length, sleeve, shoulder — the garment itself, measured flat. Compare them with a garment you own that fits the way you like.
how to measure a garment
Lay the garment flat on a table, buttons closed, and measure with a tape.
bust — straight across, from underarm seam to underarm seam, then doubled. A 116 cm bust on a coat means 58 cm across when it lies flat.
length — from the highest point of the shoulder, next to the collar, straight down to the hem.
shoulder — across the back, from one shoulder seam to the other.
sleeve — from the shoulder seam to the end of the cuff.
waist (trousers) — across the top of the waistband, doubled.
hip (trousers) — across the widest part, doubled.
fit and sizing guide
Under every size chart is a short note on how the piece fits and which size to take: true to size, runs small: take one size up, or runs large: take one size down. The charts are the manufacturer's measurements; where we only have an approximate chart, it says so under the chart.
between two sizes
Compare the bust and the length first; they decide how a garment sits. If you fall between two sizes, the sizing guide tells you which way to go. If it doesn't, email us at info@marendale.com with your measurements, and we will tell you which size matches.
